The CO (J = 2-1) data were compared with the CO (J = 1-0) data of Cohen, Dame, & Thaddeus [1986, ApJS, 60, 695]. The distribution of CO (J = 2-1) emission mimics that of CO (J = 1-0) emission with the CO (J = 2-1)/CO (J = 1-0) intensity ratio (defined as R_(2-1/1-0)) of 0.66 averaged over the observed area. This value is typical of nearby giant molecular clouds and of gas disks of spiral galaxies and is consistent with the CO emission arising from subthermally excited, optically thick gas. Molecular gas in the inner part of the Galaxy tends to exhibit a higher value of R_(2-1/1-0) than in the solar neighborhood. Keywords: Galaxy: structure -- ISM: molecules -- surveys Description: The files in this directory are ASCII tables of the l-v diagrams of the Tokyo-NRO CO (J=2-1) survey of the Galactic plane. All the data have been resampled in velocity so that they match the CO (J=1-0) data of the Columbia survey. Intensity has been scaled by a factor of 1/0.93 (eta_mb=0.93) to get the main beam brightness temperature averaged in each velocity bin. The table data listed below, as supplied by the author, are not in a format that is conducive to reformatting into FITS, with object header records and data records that can only be described by using field format repitition factors (which are not allowed in FITS ASCII tables). Each data file is formatted as follows: Line 1: 2376 bytes (no difference among 9 data files) LSR velocity (km/s, F9.5-F7.5) x 256 field separator: TAB x 257 (including at the beginning and the end of the line) Line 2-162: 3080 bytes Galactic longitude (deg, F8.5), Tmb[CO(J=2-1)] (K, E11.3)) x 256 field separator: TAB x 256 File Summary: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- File Name Lrecl Records Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- bp1_000.dat 3080 162 l-v data GLat = +1.000 deg bp0_750.dat 3080 162 l-v data GLat = +0.750 deg bp0_500.dat 3080 162 l-v data GLat = +0.500 deg bp0_250.dat 3080 162 l-v data GLat = +0.250 deg bp0_000.dat 3080 162 l-v data GLat = +0.000 deg bm0_250.dat 3080 162 l-v data GLat = -0.250 deg bm0_500.dat 3080 162 l-v data GLat = -0.500 deg bm0_750.dat 3080 162 l-v data GLat = -0.750 deg bm1_000.dat 3080 162 l-v data GLat = -1.000 deg -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ================================================================================ (End) Lee Brotzman [ADS] 08-May-96
