CDROM/AJ/V108/P0932 Variables Near NGC 330 (Sebo & Wood 1994) ================================================================================ Variable Stars in and Around the SMC Cluster NGC 330 K. M. Sebo and P. R. Wood <1994, AJ, 108, 932> =1994AJ....108..932S ================================================================================ Abstract: V and I band CCD images of the SMC cluster NGC 330 have been obtained over an interval of 4 years with the aim of identifying variable stars in and around this rich, young cluster. The search has revealed 22 Cepheid variables, of which 14 are newly discovered. All of these appear to belong to the SMC field population rather than being cluster members. Twenty long-period variables, and nine other variables were identified including two eclipsing variables (one newly discovered), and four close binary stars, two of which show emission lines. The Cepheids indicate that only small to moderate amounts of convective core overshoot (f_ov <~ 0.25) occur during the main-sequence phases for stars of mass 2-3 Msun. The Cepheid period-luminosity-color relation obtained from VI photometry, when compared to the theoretical relation of Chiosi, et al. [ApJS, 86, 541 (1993)], yields a distance modulus for the short-period Cepheids observed during this study of 18.92 if no overshoot is assumed, or 18.72 if moderate overshoot (f_ov = 0.25) is adopted. Only two modes of pulsation are present in this group of Cepheids, most likely they are the fundamental and first overtone. Description: [Note: The following description is from the author-supplied documentation that accompanied the data. Note that the data tables contain header information inserted by the author and hence are not easily transformed into FITS format.] The files in this directory are the calibrated raw photometric data for all the variable stars discussed in the printed paper. Each file contains the photometry for one variable. The filenames are of the form "170.dat", where the 170 refers to the variable star number. The format of the files is as follows: Line 1 : the star number as given in Sebo & Wood Line 2 : column headings: JD = (Julian Date - 2,440,000.0) V = apparent V magnitude I = apparent I magnitude Err= photometric error of preceding column Line 3 - end : data as per line 2. format: F8.3,1X,F6.3,1X,F5.3,3X,F8.3,1X,F6.3,1X,F5.3 Some stars only have photometry in one color; this is indicated in Line 2 by the column headings. In the case where there are differing numbers of data point in each color, the color with the fewer data points has been padded with zeros.
