Redshift Data for Seven Clusters John M. Hill & William R. Oegerle <1993, AJ, 106, 831> =1993AJ....106..831H ================================================================================ Abstract: We present the initial results of a spectroscopic study of a sample of cD galaxy clusters. The goal of this program is to study the dynamics of the clusters, with emphasis on determining the nature and frequency of peculiar velocity cD galaxies. In this paper we present redshifts for 611 galaxies in the fields of the rich Abell clusters A193, A399, A401, A1795, A1809, A2063, and A2124. We discuss our data reduction techniques, and compare our derived velocities with previously published values. We find a frequency of emission line galaxies of ~6% in clusters, a factor of 2-3 less than the field. For galaxy #388 in Table 4 (file TABLE4.DAT), the listed velocities were derived from emission and absorption lines separately. The letter "A" indicates the presence of absorption lines in the higher Balmer lines. The number of independent measurements contributing to the combined velocity of the cD are also reported. The identifying number of each cD galaxy is #201, except for the A399 cD which is #448. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Byte-by-byte Description of file: table5.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bytes Format Units Label Explanations -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1- 3 I3 --- ID Cluster identifying number 4 1X --- --- Blank 5- 7 F3.0 h RAh Right ascension, equinox J2000 8-10 F3.0 min RAm R.A. 11-16 F6.2 s RAs R.A 17 1X --- --- Blank 18 A1 --- DE- Sign of declination 19-20 F2.0 deg DEd Declination, equinox J2000 21-23 F3.0 arcmin DEm Dec. 24-28 F5.1 arcsec DEs Dec. 29-30 2X --- --- Blank 31-35 I5 km/s Vel Observed heliocentric-corrected velocities 36-40 I5 km/s e_Vel Velocity uncertainty 41-42 2X --- --- Blank 43-80 A38 --- Comment *Comments -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes for file: table5.dat -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment: A letter "E" in the comments field means that the velocity was derived from emission lines only.
